Vinayagar Chathurthi!!- Know your god's history!!

Vinayagar Chathurthi is regarded as one of the most auspicious days for most of the Hindus.  LordVinayaka is to whom the first prayers are offered by the Hindus.  According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Vinayaka is considered to be the foremost, and they invoke his blessings before all their rituals.  Therefore, it is essential for us to know who is lord Ganesha and his origin.

  • One day,  Parvathi, the wife of Lord Shiva was about to take bath, but, none of her attendants were there to guard the room.  So, she created a human figure from unguent and balm.
  • She used all her supernatural powers to give life to the figure. She then requested the human figure to guard the room while she takes bath.
  • While she was taking bath, Lord Shiva reached home after a long meditation and was shocked to see a boy figure guarding his place.  When Lord Shiva tried to enter his place, he was stopped by the boy figure.
  •  On seeing the boy's act, Lord Shiva lost his cool and severed the boy's head.  Later, he realized that the boy was his wife Parvathi's creation.
  •  In order to avoid conflict with his wife Lord Parvathi, he ordered his attendants to bring a head for the boy and also insisted to bring the head of the first creature they see while searching.
  • Fortunately/Unfortunately, they attendants saw an elephant first!!!  So, as per their master's instructions, they severed the head of that elephant and brought it to Lord Shiva.
  • Lord Shiva planted the elephant head on the boy's neck and gave back life to him.
  • Meanwhile, Lord Parvathi came back after taking bath and was surprised with the unusual figure of a human body and elephant head.  She questioned lord Shiva who the guy was("Pillai yaaru" in tamil).  Lord Shiva explained the whole thing to Parvathi and named the boy as "Pillai yar".
  •  This elephant headed god was then appreciated for his efforts and was then appointed as the chief attendant of Lord Shiva.  This is the history of Lord Vinayaka.
HAPPY VINAYAKAR CHATHURTHI.. WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED :)
